šš„ Two Montclair House Fires Leave Firefighters Injured; Residents Safe š„š
The Montclair Fire Department responded to two separate residential fires over the weekend, with firefighters sustaining injuries while battling the blazes. No residents were injured, according to officials.
The first fire occurred Saturday afternoon on the 100-block of South Mountain Avenue. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the rear of a 3.5-story home, with flames extending inside the walls toward the third floor. Firefighters quickly worked to contain the fire and conducted a full search of the residence.
One firefighter was injured and transported to Mountainside Hospital for treatment.
A second residential fire was reported Friday on the 100-block of North Mountain Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a rear deck fully involved and collapsed, with fire spreading into the exterior walls of the home. Crews used handlines to extinguish the flames and searched for possible fire extension inside the residence.
Officials confirmed all searches were negative, including an additional search for a reported missing dog, which was later found safe with the homeowner. A firefighter was treated and released for injuries sustained during the response.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by departments from West Orange, Nutley, Orange, Cedar Grove, Bloomfield, Clifton, and Irvington, along with the Montclair Police Department and Montclair Ambulance Unit.
