🚨🚔 SADDLE BROOK OFFICER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN I 80 HIT AND RUN 🚔🚨
A Saddle Brook police officer was seriously injured early Sunday morning during a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 80. New Jersey State Police are searching for the driver who fled the scene after striking the officer during a traffic stop.
SADDLE BROOK, NJ — A Saddle Brook police officer was seriously injured early Sunday morning after being struck by a passing vehicle while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 80, according to New Jersey State Police.
The crash happened at approximately 4:30 a.m. along eastbound I 80 near milepost 62.4.
Police said the officer was conducting a traffic stop involving a Nissan Maxima in the highway’s deceleration lane when another vehicle traveling through the area struck the officer and the left side of the stopped Nissan.
🚨 The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene and fled, according to authorities.
The officer suffered serious injuries in the collision. The occupants of the Nissan Maxima were not injured.
⚠️ POLICE REMIND DRIVERS ABOUT MOVE OVER LAW
Following the crash, New Jersey State Police reminded motorists of the state’s Move Over Law, which requires drivers to safely move over one lane when possible when approaching emergency responders, police vehicles, tow trucks, highway workers or disabled vehicles displaying flashing lights.
If moving over cannot be done safely, drivers are required to slow down below the posted speed limit and be prepared to stop.
