A 69-year-old Plainfield woman has been charged with reckless driving following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Virginia. The collision killed an 8-year-old girl and seriously injured four adults after the woman rear-ended a Jeep that had slowed for traffic.
A 69-year-old woman from Plainfield, New Jersey, is facing a reckless driving charge following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Virginia that claimed the life of an 8-year-old girl.
Virginia State Police said Kathleen Gajewski was driving a GMC Envoy southbound on I-81 Thursday afternoon when she allegedly rear-ended a Jeep Compass that had slowed in the left lane.
Investigators said the Jeep was slowing because of a separate crash farther ahead on the interstate.
The impact left an 8-year-old girl inside the Jeep dead. Police said she was properly restrained with a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
Three adults traveling in the Jeep also suffered serious injuries.
Gajewski was seriously injured as well, although authorities said her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
āļø Virginia State Police said Gajewski was criminally charged with reckless driving in connection with the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details about the circumstances surrounding the collision were not immediately released.
