A Camden woman who worked as a certified nurse’s aide has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault after authorities said she intentionally sprayed bleach into the face and eyes of a paralyzed nursing home resident.
Simone Goldsboro, 37, of Camden, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault of an institutionalized elderly person in connection with an incident at Avista Healthcare Nursing Home in Cherry Hill on August 17, 2023.
According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Goldsboro was caring for a woman over the age of 60 who was partially paralyzed following a stroke.
Authorities said Goldsboro admitted that she used more force than necessary while undressing the resident to wash her. Investigators said she then left the room, retrieved a spray bottle containing bleach from a custodial cleaning cart, and intentionally sprayed the patient in the face and eyes. 🧴🚨
Officials said Goldsboro understood that spraying bleach into someone's eyes could cause significant bodily injury, including temporary or permanent loss of eyesight.
⚖️ Sentencing is scheduled for October 30. Goldsboro could face up to one year in jail, along with possible probation and forfeiture of her certified nurse’s aide license.
The case was investigated and prosecuted by state authorities. The guilty plea resolves the criminal charge, with sentencing still pending.
