Authorities say the Pleasantville resident misused the National Crime Information Center system several times since joining the force in 2023.
NORTHFIELD, NJ — A Northfield police officer is facing multiple charges after an investigation found he allegedly accessed a federal law enforcement database outside the scope of his official duties, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Malachi Valentine, 25, of Pleasantville, was charged with second-degree official misconduct, second-degree pattern of official misconduct, third-degree computer criminal activity and petty disorderly persons harassment.
Prosecutors said the investigation determined that Valentine allegedly used the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database for purposes unrelated to his employment with the Northfield Police Department.
According to authorities, the alleged conduct dates back to 2023, when Valentine was appointed to the department.
The NCIC is a nationwide law enforcement information system containing records used by authorized agencies for criminal justice and public-safety purposes.
Valentine was taken into custody and subsequently released on a complaint-summons, according to prosecutors.
The investigation remains part of an ongoing legal process.
