A 23-year-old inmate has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a fellow prisoner at the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility in Chesterfield, Burlington County. According to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, Trevor Banton, 23, of East Orange, was charged on July 21, 2026, in the death of Yasin Sellers, 24. Authorities say the investigation began on July 17 following a disturbance inside the prison gymnasium after a religious service attended by multiple inmates. Correctional officers found Sellers unresponsive on the floor, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation determined that Sellers allegedly collapsed after being assaulted by Banton, according to prosecutors. Banton is expected to appear in Superior Court in Mount Holly for a first court appearance. ⚖️ The charges are allegations.
