An Illinois man pleaded guilty to conspiracy after federal agents seized more than 260 pounds of methamphetamine in New Jersey, marking the state’s largest bust. Marcos Cesar Acosta faces a potential life sentence for overseeing the massive drug shipment delivered by truck.
CAMDEN, NJ — An Illinois man has pleaded guilty to his role in a conspiracy to distribute more than 260 pounds of methamphetamine into New Jersey, a case federal authorities say resulted in the largest methamphetamine seizure in state history.
Marcos Cesar Acosta, 47, most recently of Chicago, pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in Camden to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, according to federal prosecutors.
Court documents and statements made during the proceedings allege Acosta traveled to New Jersey on April 28 to oversee the delivery of hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine that had been transported into the state by truck.
🚔 Federal authorities said law enforcement officers arrested Acosta and another alleged co-conspirator after the truck arrived in New Jersey.
Investigators reportedly discovered and seized more than 260 pounds of methamphetamine from the truck's cab. The drugs were allegedly concealed inside three black storage boxes, a duffel bag and a garbage bag.
💰 Prosecutors said the federal conspiracy charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, along with a potential fine of up to $10 million.
⚖️ Acosta is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court on December 17.
The case remains part of an ongoing federal investigation into the trafficking of large quantities of methamphetamine into New Jersey.
