⚖️ GOV. SHERRILL CALLS FOR LT. GOV. DALE CALDWELL TO RESIGN FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION

TRENTON, NJ — Governor Mikie Sherrill is calling on Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell to resign following the conclusion of an independent investigation into allegations involving his conduct.

Sherrill announced Thursday that the investigation found Caldwell engaged in what she described as serious and repeated violations of state policy and failed to meet the responsibilities associated with his office. She said Caldwell has until Friday to resign.

The governor specifically cited a substantiated finding of sexual harassment, along with other alleged violations of state policy and the administration’s code of conduct.

According to Sherrill, the investigation was initiated by the administration’s Chief Ethics Officer and conducted by former New Jersey Attorney General Christopher Porrino. She said investigators reviewed the evidence, followed the facts and took steps to protect the privacy of those involved.

The investigation had been underway for months. Earlier reports indicated that allegations involving Caldwell included claims of inappropriate behavior toward women and potential ethics violations.

Caldwell serves as both lieutenant governor and New Jersey secretary of state. He was elected alongside Sherrill in 2025 and took office in January 2026.

Sherrill said her administration expects public officials and employees to follow state ethics requirements, harassment policies and its code of conduct.

The governor’s announcement represents a significant development in the investigation, which had previously received public attention while the allegations remained under review.

The status of Caldwell’s response to the governor’s resignation request was not included in Sherrill’s announcement.
