šØ FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP FATAL CRASH INVOLVING ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE UNDER INVESTIGATION

Police are investigating a fatal crash between an electric motorcycle and a car at the intersection of Route 27 and South Middlebush Road. An adult male died from his injuries after the two vehicles collided on Saturday afternoon.
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ ā The Franklin Township Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving an electric motorcycle that occurred Saturday afternoon, August 15, at the intersection of Route 27 and South Middlebush Road.
š Officers were dispatched at approximately 1:28 p.m. for a reported crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male suffering from serious injuries.
š Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
According to investigators, the victim was traveling southbound on Route 27 on an electric motorcycle when it collided with a vehicle that was making a left turn from northbound Route 27 onto South Middlebush Road.
ā ļø VEHICLE CLASSIFICATION UPDATED
Police initially reported that the victim had been operating an e-bike. However, a follow-up investigation by the department's Traffic Safety Bureau determined that the vehicle was actually an electric motorcycle.
Officials said the vehicle does not meet the statutory definition of a low-speed electric bicycle under N.J.S.A. 39:1-1, as it is not a pedal-assisted bicycle.
š Public Safety Director Lloyd N. Fredericks expressed condolences to the victim's family and loved ones, while urging motorists and other roadway users to slow down, remain alert and follow the rules of the road.
