💔 Five-Year-Old Boy Dies Days After Drowning in Union Township Pool
A five-year-old boy has died after falling into a backyard swimming pool in Union Township. Despite life-saving efforts by neighbors and emergency responders on Sunday afternoon, the child passed away at a local hospital on Tuesday.
UNION TOWNSHIP, NJ — A five-year-old boy has died after falling into a residential swimming pool in Union Township on Sunday afternoon.
According to Union Township Deputy Police Chief Barry Cohen, officers were dispatched around 2:52 p.m. on August 9 to a home on the 2400 block of North 3rd Street for a reported medical emergency involving a child.
When officers arrived, a neighbor was performing CPR on the child in the backyard. Police said the boy had fallen into a pool at the residence and was removed from the water by the neighbor and the child’s mother.
The child was reportedly unresponsive. Officers immediately joined the life-saving efforts alongside Union firefighters and EMS personnel.
The boy was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save his life, authorities said he was pronounced dead on Tuesday, August 11.
The circumstances surrounding the drowning remain under investigation by the Township of Union Police Department and the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.
