Lindenwold Elementary School 4 will remain closed through Monday following an accidental fire caused by roof construction. Students will transition to remote learning, with the district distributing laptops on Thursday and offering bulk meal packages for pickup next week.
LINDENWOLD, NJ — A fire at Lindenwold Elementary School 4 is forcing the school to remain closed through Monday as officials address the aftermath of Tuesday night’s incident.
The district said remote learning will be used during the closure, with students continuing their schoolwork from home.
💻 Chromebooks will be distributed Thursday in the school’s bus loop area. Families can pick up devices between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. or again from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Only approved individuals listed as “Real Time” contacts will be permitted to pick up a Chromebook, and identification will be required.
🍎 MEAL SERVICES ALSO IMPACTED
The district is also making arrangements for students who rely on school meals. Bulk food packages containing approximately five days of meals will be available for pickup Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Officials said the pickup location will be announced later.
The school’s planned Open House has also been postponed and will be rescheduled.
📅 Because classes were canceled Wednesday, the district has scheduled October 12 as a make-up school day.
🔥 WHAT HAPPENED?
The Lindenwold Fire Department said crews were called to the elementary school around 8 p.m. Tuesday after a report of possible smoke in the area.
Contractors were working on the school’s roof and air conditioning units as part of construction work that had continued from the summer into the fall.
Smoke was discovered inside the building, prompting officials to evacuate staff and workers.
Firefighters also located a significant heat source near the roof while investigating.
🚒 Multiple emergency vehicles responded to the school, with aerial footage showing the extensive emergency response.
Officials said everyone was safe and determined that the fire was accidental.
The district is expected to provide additional information regarding the school’s reopening and meal pickup arrangements as they become available.
