🚨 FATAL CRASH INVOLVING ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE UNDER INVESTIGATION IN FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP 🚨
Franklin Township police are investigating a fatal Saturday afternoon collision between a car and an electric motorcycle at Route 27 and South Middlebush Road. The adult male motorcyclist died at a local hospital following the crash.
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Somerset County, NJ — The Franklin Township Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of an adult male Saturday afternoon.
The crash happened around 1:28 p.m. on August 15 at the intersection of Route 27 and South Middlebush Road, involving an electric motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
According to police, the victim was traveling southbound on Route 27 when the collision occurred with a vehicle traveling northbound that was making a left turn onto South Middlebush Road.
The victim suffered serious injuries and was transported by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Police initially reported that the victim had been operating an e-bike. However, a follow-up investigation by the department’s Traffic Safety Bureau determined the vehicle was an electric motorcycle and did not meet New Jersey’s statutory definition of a low-speed electric bicycle because it was not a pedal-assisted bicycle.

“Our condolences are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this tragic time,” Public Safety Director Lloyd N. Fredericks said, while urging motorists to slow down, remain alert and follow the rules of the road.
