🚨 BAYVILLE MAN CHARGED IN DEADLY BARNEGAT BAY BOAT CRASH THAT KILLED TWO CHILDREN
Authorities charged a 64-year-old Bayville man with reckless vessel homicide following a July boat crash on Barnegat Bay that killed two children. Stephen Schneider surrendered to police on Friday and faces additional charges for operating a vessel under the influence.
BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 64-year-old Bayville man has been arrested and charged in connection with the July boat crash on Barnegat Bay that claimed the lives of two children, according to the New Jersey State Police and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities said Stephen Schneider, 64, of Bayville, voluntarily surrendered on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Berkeley Township Police Department.
Members of the New Jersey State Police Troop “C” Criminal Investigation Office, the NJSP Marine Bureau Point Pleasant Station and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office coordinated the surrender and subsequent arrest.
Schneider was charged with:
🔴 Two counts of Reckless Vessel Homicide/Death by Vessel — a second-degree offense 🔴 Operating a Vessel Under the Influence 🔴 Reckless Operation of a Vessel
According to authorities, the charges stem from the July crash on Barnegat Bay that resulted in the deaths of two children.
🚔 LODGED IN OCEAN COUNTY JAIL
Following his arrest, Schneider was lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a future court hearing.
The investigation remains active, and New Jersey State Police said no additional information is currently available.
