Authorities identified 47-year-old Shaun Murphy as the man fatally shot by Sergeant John Borelli during a domestic disturbance call in Millville. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office sergeant fired his weapon inside a residence, and investigators later recovered a handgun at the scene.
MILLVILLE, NJ — Authorities have identified the man who was fatally shot during a police-involved shooting in Millville Thursday morning, as well as the law enforcement officer who fired the fatal shot.
According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, 47-year-old Shaun Murphy of Millville was fatally shot by Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Sgt. John Borelli during an encounter inside a residence on the 300 block of Hazel Boulevard.
Police had responded to the home following a report of a domestic disturbance.
During the encounter inside the residence, Sgt. Borelli fired his service weapon, striking Murphy, authorities said. Murphy was subsequently pronounced dead.
🔎 A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to the Attorney General’s Office. Officials have not disclosed who possessed the firearm or provided additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
The investigation remains ongoing. The Attorney General’s Office is expected to release additional information as the investigation progresses.
