šØ 86-YEAR-OLD DRIVER RESCUED AFTER CAR PLUNGES INTO MANCHESTER WATER HAZARD š
Police rescued an 86-year-old man after he accidentally drove his car into a golf course water hazard in Manchester Township. Officers swam out to save the driver before the vehicle became fully submerged, and he was treated for minor injuries.
MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ ā An 86-year-old man was rescued early Sunday morning after his vehicle entered a water hazard at the Renaissance at Manchester, according to police.
The incident happened around 4:52 a.m. on September 20 near Halstead Drive and Esplanade Drive, close to the community's golf course.
When officers arrived, they found George Migner, 86, of Manchester, calling for help as his black 2024 Nissan Altima was slowly becoming submerged.
š Ptl. Sean Rembach entered the water and swam toward the vehicle to assist Migner, while Ptl. Donald Miller used a water rescue throw bag to help guide him safely back to shore.
The vehicle eventually became completely submerged after Migner was rescued.
š Members of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company and the Whiting Fire Water Rescue and Recovery Team responded to assist with the recovery operation.
According to police, Migner told officers he was attempting to perform a K-turn when he accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while shifting into reverse. The vehicle then traveled over an embankment and into the water hazard.
š Migner was evaluated at the scene by Manchester EMS for a minor injury.
Manchester Township Police praised the responding officers, EMS personnel, firefighters and water rescue personnel for their coordinated response.
